It feels like PlayStation is out trying to make themselves out to be the bad guy as the Japanese console maker warns legacy—PlayStation 3 and Vita—platform owners that the storefronts are going to go the way of the dodo here soon.
At the earliest, select regions, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, will see the PS3 store shutter in August while other Latin American and Middle Eastern countries will see it happen in “late 2026.” The rest of the world will have until July 2027.
This decision is not a shock, Sony tried to shutter the legacy storefronts once before back in 2021, but backlash ensued and Sony backpedaled to save face. Frankly, this doesn’t seem like a decision they will back out of this time regardless of the backlash they will receive.
